Market Yourself As A Real Estate Investor

The local Real Estate Investors Assn. of N. Central Indiana (REIA-NCI) will meet on it’s regular 4th Thursday of the month on May 22. The speakers are Jeff Heflin and Melissa Nusbaum and the topic is, ” how to market yourself as a real estate investor”. Also Peter Payne will share details of how to receive a grant to remove lead hazards from your home. The meeting will be held at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend from 6:30 till 9:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Please call Penny Hughes, Program Chair, with questions 291-2342.


March 27 Meeting

We have three speakers lined up for our March 27 meeting. Lori Hiscock, loan officer for Ruoff Mortgage Co. will speak on how to read and screen rental tenants’ credit reports and learn how to help them qualify for FHA loans when they are ready to buy. Also speaking are Jeff Holloway on roofing the right way and waterproofing basements. Then Bob Leinonen, aka THE BUG MAN, will teach how to get rid of bed bugs, roaches and mice. The meeting will be held Thursday, March 27 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend, a few blocks North of the bypass, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Lou Klatch, Metropolitan Title Insurance

Lou Klatch, attorney for Metropolitan Title Insurance, will be discussing title implications for properties obtained at the St. Joseph County Sheriff Sale, and at the Tax Sale, including the spring Commisioners Sale. Time permitting, he will also discuss items that appear on a preliminary title report and how to deal with them. Mr. Klatch is also prepared to answer any title related questions as well as the 2013 and 2014 changes related to Indiana tiltle law.

Spring Forward

The ‘SPRING FORWARD’ initiative Diana Hess, County Council woman and Chris Stackawicz will be discussing in February which is  to  help us  beautify our neighborhoods where we invest.

Holiday Party is December 19

The club’s annual Holiday Party is December 19 at 6:00 pm at the Castle Manor in Merrifield Park in Mishawaka.

The evening will start with a potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to pass. The club will provide meat, plates, forks, napkins and beverages. You may bring beer or wine but the rules of the Merrifield Park prohibit hard liquor.

After dinner there will be an awards presentation and some fun with a “Dirty Santa” game. Bring a wrapped gift of at least $10.00 value if you want to play.

Castle Manor is located at the north end of Merrifield Park.

“Bullet Proof Your Lease” PLUS tax information

Wow! Have we got an information packed meeting scheduled for November.

Steve Eslinger, Attorney at Law,  will discuss  “How to Bullet Proof your lease”.

David Nieset, MBA, EA,  and  President of  the Business Center will give some advice on ways  to                reduce your tax burden before the end of the year.  He will be our speaker in January  so this will be a short presentation on things you might want to address while there is time.

Mike Campbell will spend a few minutes on the tax bills coming out and the appeal process.

And election of officers for 2014.

Mark your calendars for the 3rd, not 4th Thursday in Nov.  The meeting will be held at the Sanctuary at St. Pauls, 3602 S. Ironwood on Thursday, November 21 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

At the November meeting (3rd Thurs. not 4th due to Thanksgiving) members will vote for  officers you want to represent you on  next year’s REIA-NCI Board. The nominating Committee  consisted of Marie Buckhanan, Penny Hughes, Bill Walsh  and Melody Walsh.  They are presenting the following slate of candidates who have agreed to run.  Nominations will also be taken from the floor if the candidate agrees to run.  The slate is as follows:
