Property Tax Appeals

It is property tax time again. What do you do when you get a shocking increase in your assessment? Or maybe it is just a little bit beyond what you feel is a reasonable assessment. What do you do? And when are the deadlines? Rosemary Mandrici, St. Joseph County Assessor, will be at our next meeting to discuss the property assessment process how to handle any appeals.

Next Home Program

Also speaking is  Lori Hiscock,  Ruoff Mortgage. Lori will be talking about Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Next Home Program.  It is a down payment assistance program that helps qualified FHA and Conventional home buyers purchase a home with the down payment funds being provided by the state.

Meet the Candidates

The important upcoming election Nov. 4  is the reason the  Real Estate Investors Assn. of N. Central Indiana (REIA-NCI) will hold a “MEET THE CANDIDATES” event at their  Thursday, September 25th meeting.  Candidates running for Congress, the Indiana Legislature and local County Offices have been invited to speak.  The meeting will be held at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.  Please call 291-2342 with questions.

Dodd-Frank

Steve Eslinger will speak about the portion of the Dodd-Frank Act that went into effect this year and how it is affecting investors. Is it just some additional paperwork like some are saying? Or the end of land contracts and private mortgages? Or somewhere in between? Come get the latest information and decide for yourself.

Our New Website

Marie Buckhanan will give an overview of the new website (reia-nie.org) and some hands-on help on how to set up your member profile. All members will recieve an email with their login and password for the new website. They are encourage to go explore the new website and bring any questions to the meeting. Marie says that if you feel comfortable go ahead and update your member profile. Or print out the email with your login and password and bring it to the meeting. We will set up as many as possible at the meeting.

Abandoned Properties: One of the best kept money-making secrets! That is the topic of the next meeting of the local Real Estate Investors Association of North Central Indiana (REIA-NCI). We have invited Internationally known Real Estate speaker Reggie Brooks to come from California to share with us his success systems on building wealth through investing in vacant, distressed Abandoned Properties. June 26 is Annual Picnic

Come out and enjoy an evening of fun and networking at the REIA-NCI Annual  Summer Picnic at Potawatomi Park June 26 at 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish or food to share.  Wine and Beer are ok, no hard stuff as per park rules.  The club will furnish meat, soft drinks and table service. 

Potawatami Park is located west off Ironwood, 1 block north of Mishawaka Avenue, about a 10 minute drive from our normal meeting location. We will be at Potawatomi Park, Pavilion #2. Follow the signs for the Zoo. When you get to the Zoo parking area look to your left for Pavillion #2.  Lots to do.  Zoo and play grounds for the kids.
